bridges of hope

School of Social Work, University of Ottawa

In this mural commissioned by and located at the School of Social Work at the University of Ottawa. I wanted to convey what I believe a Social Worker represents: A sense of universal connection, embracing of diversity, freedom and trust, support, open mind, and the certainty that we are one as a species and one with nature.

CREATURES OF LIGHT

Private Commission

I painted this piece inspired by a backpaking trip to the Amazon in 2017. My adventure partners -my daughters- and I, spent 5 days and nights trekking in the jungle with an indigenous guide. The first night after setting up our camp in the midle of nowhere, Carlitos, our guide, asked us to turn off our head lamps. When our eyes where adjusted to the dark we discovered an ethereal universe of luminescent insects including some plants. A magical and unforgettable surprise...

GUACAMAYA

Private Commission

This 8x12 feet mural was a pleasure to create. Inspired by the colours and fauna of the tropical forest I created Guacamaya using digital brushes and acrylics. The bird was printed on six 4x4 wooden panels and finalized with acrylics.

I received an email from Deb whom I had never met. She told me that from her garden in Altavista, she could see the Wisdom Mural. Deb told me that during the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Wisdom Mural gave her hope. The Wisdom Mural was for her a "work of love and faith".

Deb who has Indigenous background, shared with me that in traditional knowledge, hummingbirds are messengers of hope, joy, and love, and are believed to carry the wishes of the people to the spirit world. She commissioned this mural for her beautifully kept garden.

cummings bridge mural

Corner of Rideau and Wurtemburg St.

The Cummings Bridge was built in 1921 over the Rideau River, just one block away from this mural.  This Ottawa's landmark and the diverse neighbourhood around it were the inspiration of this mural that was commissioned by Ottawa Community Housing in 2014. This was my first outdoor mural.

Innovation Pod by PrototypeD

Inspired by our trip to the jungles of our country Colombia, my daughter artist Manuela Serje and I painted this mural  on the walls of the InnovationPod, a multi-use mobile technology studio developed for entrepreneurs at Bayview Yards by @prototypeD TEAM Inc. with support from FedDev Ontario. The mobile studio provides a creative space that can be used in a multitude of ways.
