EVENT MURALS & WORKSHOPS

“Trees and rivers in Canada in tribute to Honduran activist Berta Cáceres” SOLIDARITY Trees were planted in six Canadian cities in tribute to murdered environmental activist Berta Cáceres (Honduras).

In 2022 Amnesty International commissioned me to create an art installation around the tree planted at their headquarters in Ottawa. At first, we talked about painting rocks, so I said: “Let's paint a river! Let's create a river with the community!” And so, we created a river as a symbol of all those things that we must recover, remake and rebuild.

RIVER OF SOLIDARITY

In the last couple of years I have had the honour to be commissioned for the creation of two community murals by “Heritage colombien”, a cultural organisation dedicated to the promotion of Latin American culture through dance. In 2023 the mural was dedicated to the “Carnaval de Negros y Blancos” (the Blacks and Whites Carnival) that takes place every January in Pasto, Colombia and which since 2009 is part of UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage. In 2024 the mural was dedicated to the “Feria de las Flores” (Festival of Flowers) that takes place every August in Medellin, Colombia.

In 2022 I was commissioned by the Great India Festival to paint a mural dedicated to Lord Vishnu with participants at the festival on the ground of Ottawa City Hall. As a community engaged artist with a huge passion for bringing community and cultures together it was an honour to create this meaningful mural. I also had the pleasure to be assisted by my daughter artist Manuela Serje.
